About our program
Our vision is for this time to be filled with collaborative play, teamwork, learning about and connecting to our space, and opportunity for the children to self-direct and take risks socially, emotionally, and physically. Building relationships with our students is of utmost importance and helping them build respectful relationships with each other and nature is our highest ideal.
During our summer program, we are committed to the principles of a Reggio-Inspired, Forest School philosophy done in a nurturing, collaborative, supportive environment. Our emphasis remains on outdoor learning, environmental stewardship, and holistic development with opportunities to take supported risks. We celebrate children's inherent competencies and curiosities, building a foundation that creates a life-long love of learning and the outdoors. We encourage artistic exploration utilizing mixed mediums and natural materials. The children will also spend time working in our gardens and taking hikes on the nearby trails. We offer a 1:6 teacher to child ratio.
Each day we will have areas for exploration set up to invite interactions the moment children enter our space. Once the group has all arrived, we will gather for a circle where we will share stories, sing songs, and discuss the day’s plans. Some days we will head out on a hike to investigate the nature that surrounds us. Other times we will go on hunts for things to explore with a specific focus or concept (maps, trail markers, animals, etc.) From there we will enjoy snack, some free play, a game or guided play, or an activity based on the environment or interest of the group. To close out the morning, we will gather for lunch and to share stories and experiences and plan for the next day. For those staying full day, after lunch we will have rest time for the younger children and quieter activities for the older ones then games and free play until pick up.
